Bike or e-bike: Which one should I book for the tours?

Bike ou E-bike

Here at Bikeinswitzerland we offer tours with traditional bikes or e-bikes (electric bikes). Some customers, however, are in doubt about which type of bicycle to choose. This post is to help you with that. So here we go:

Difference between traditional bikes and e-bikes

E-bikes are motorized electric bicycles, which assist pedalling. With an e-bike the cyclist can go further with less effort. Traditional bikes are those “normal” bikes that we are used to. If you want to know more about e-bikes, go to the “Our Bikes” section.

What our customers say

“I love the experience of cycling on an e-bike. I have always had a lot of difficulty accompanying friends and tours on traditional bikes because I am unable to cycle on steeper stretches. In addition, when I was tired going slowly, I often lost my balance. This does not happen with the e-bike: adjusting the gear and activating assistance in turbo mode, I can climb hills that I would never have climbed before. E-bikes make me a lot more confident! ” – Raquel Furtado

“I have a traditional bike in Lucerne and I ride it every day to go to work. I never tried an e-bike and I confess that I was a little afraid because they were heavier bikes (because of the engine). But I decided to take an e-biketour with Ana and I just loved the experience. The weight doesn’t interfere with anything – during the tour I didn’t even realize that the bike was actually heavier. Ana chooses very high quality bikes and I was really able to ride much more than I could have done with a traditional bicycle. I recommend e-bike for a tour to everyone. ” – Cinzia Lacerenza

e-bike nos tours

Messages like these are very frequent among our clients. Most love the help that e-bike provides and the ability to go the extra mile. If you want to take a more relaxed tour, I also recommend e-bikes. But make no mistake, even with them, you will still have to pedal, okay?!

Do I still use my legs with e-bikes?

Yes, always. But as much as you want. E-bikes are not like small motorcycles; they are still bicycles. The engine is only activated with your pedalling, and only remains active while you pedal. So, in any case, you will need some effort to move forward. During the climbs, even with Turbo mode activated (maximum assistance), we still make a considerable effort. But don’t worry: the help is excellent! You will love the experience!

Which bike should I choose:  E-bike or traditional bike?

The answer to this question is simple: if you want to be able to go further, ride uphill with a little more comfort and still do an exercise, opt for e-bikes. Even with them, you can still disable the assistance and cycle as if you were on a traditional bike. However, the engine is available there for any help that your legs may need. But if you are already part of a pedal group and would like to turn your tours around Switzerland into heavier workouts, we will also have traditional bikes for you. Just note that our tours are exclusive on traditional bikes or e-bikes. We do not combine the two types in the same group.

If you still have questions, please contact our team. It will be a pleasure to assist you.
